Many IMAX films use an expanded image only for select scenes. The Odyssey is the first feature film shot entirely with IMAX film cameras.
The whole movie will use an expanded IMAX presentation, but how much image you see depends on the format of your screening.

Standard widescreen
If your showtime is on a screen not branded “IMAX,”
The physical size of the screen does not change the aspect ratio. Some non-IMAX screenings use other ratios, including 2.20:1 standard 70mm and 1.85:1 Dolby Cinema or PLF presentations.
1.90:1
IMAX
Most IMAX screenings will present the entire film in 1.90:1.
This shows more image above and below than the 2.39:1 version, but less than the full 1.43:1 presentation.

Full-height IMAX
If your showtime is advertised as IMAX 70mm or confirmed as a 1.43:1 IMAX with Laser presentation, expect the full-height version of the film.
IMAX 70mm is not the only way to see 1.43:1. Select IMAX with Laser locations can also show the full-height version.
A tall IMAX screen alone does not guarantee a 1.43:1 presentation. Check the format listed for the specific showtime.
Is standard 70mm the same as IMAX 70mm?
No. Standard 70mm presents The Odyssey in 2.20:1. IMAX 70mm uses a much larger film frame and presents the movie in 1.43:1.
Is 1.43:1 automatically the best experience?
Not necessarily.
Aspect ratio tells you how much image is visible, but projection quality, sound, screen size, seating, comfort, and convenience also matter.
A great non-IMAX screening may be more enjoyable than your nearest IMAX. Choose the experience that works best for you.
